I got some flack from some readers for posting this quiz that could not connect the dots back to Texas.
Texas growers are getting interested in a number of Italian grape varietals – Red and White. As you know, Italy is one big vineyard. Many experimental plots have been planted in Texas and showing some success in the hot texas sun even with young vines. Wineries like Mandola Estate Winery (www.mandolawines.com) are going mainstream into Italian varietal wines.

I found a great website for understanding the wine regions of Italy.
http://winecountry.it/regions/
You can even drill down from each region and get to the grape varietals that are common in each region and a description.
This is great as Italy is one big vineyard with many varieties of grapes that are grown almost exclusively in Italy.
One particular Italian wine region to check out is Sicily. They have some great red and white grape varieties that maintain their crisp acid zing despite the warm growing conditions.
