Gosh, I love this wine!

However, it’s almost Fall 2025 and I’m nearly out of my stash of Texas wines that I brought with me from Houston to Atlanta this Spring. The Texas Heritage Vineyard 2020 Estate Tannat (Texas Hill Country AVA) is one of the wines that I have carefully dolled out over five or more pours this summer with my Coravin.

You might ask me, “Why take so long to finish this bottle?” Well, to that I’d say, “Because it is so damn good!” And, with the bottle of Tannat in one hand and my Coravin with it’s cork-penetrating needle in the other, I can extract just enough of this luscious, red-black juice to to satisfy by taste buds, while not exposing the rest of the bottle to wine-spoiling air. Simply put, it prolongs the pleasure of the bold, full-bodied character of this Texas Heritage Tannat. This wine is fruit-forward and presents Texas heat-ripened tannins, taming the taunt, high tannic character of this grape variety.

What I particularly enjoy about Texas Heritage Vineyard’s Tannat is the complexity of the aromas, flavors and characteristics that create a very memorable tasting experience. These include blackberry, plum, and black raspberry, often complemented by rustic aged notes with hints of baking spice, cocoa and leather. The level of fruit and tannin in this wine really brings power body and enjoyment to the glass.

I confirmed that Texas Heritage Vineyard ships out of state and includes my state of residence, Georgia. So, I can restock. For my wine friends in other states, I whole heartedly recommend that you check if you can get your hands on one or more bottles of their Tannat from different vintages; the older the better while they are in stock at the winery. Those of you in Texas, have no reason to pass this up.  Tannat has tremendous aging potential in the bottle and gets better with time.  OK, I’m happy because it’s time for me to stock up. How about you?

Enjoy!

Love to taste, talk and tweet about Texas wines and where they are in the global scheme for wines. After all that's the only way they will reach the full potential.
