It’s “Rodeo Houston” Time Again and Time for Texas Wine, Too!

A couple weeks ago, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was opened with flourish of Best Bites and Rodeo Uncorked Competition winning wines. It was a first rate gala with people both pouring and sipping in their finest Rodeo regalia.

This past Wednesday, the Houston Rodeo “Champions Wine Garden” open with a media event, a pop of a cork and tasting of five of the top scoring wines. Attending was Ryan Levy, prior Houston Rodeo scholarship awardee and currently part of the dynamic duo with partner Ian Eastveld at Houston’s Nice Winery.

This year Texans have extra reason to celebrate with the following four 2017 Rodeo Uncorked top wine winners with deep roots in Texas:

  • Top Texas Wine – Pedernales Cellars, Texas High Plains Tempranillo, 2014.
  • Reserve Grand Champion Best of Show – Texas’s Nice Winery, Notorious Malbec, Mount Veeder, 2013.
  • Wine Competition Top White Wine – Fall Creek Vineyards Chardonnay, Certenberg Vineyards, 2014.
  • Top Texas Winery – Kiepersol Vineyards & Winery.

The Thursday evening festivities in the Rodeo Wine Garden were all Texas wine. It opened with a happy hour Texas Wine Celebration – a complimentary tastings from four Texas wineries.

As the evening dusk approached, Russ Kane from VintageTexas presented the Texas Wine Seminar and Tasting in the Rodeo Wine Garden.

It was a big week at the Houston Rodeo with a fine display of the best Texas Wines.

If you have not been down to the Houston Rodeo Wine Garden. Entry is free with your general admission to the rodeo grounds. From there it is up to you to sample by the glass or imbibe more heartly with bottle shared among friends or friendly strangers.
