CapRock Winery Starts New Chapter; Begins Crushing Grapes for Huge Texas Harvest
CapRock projects its largest grape crush/press service to date in 2010. The initial days of harvest confirm that this will be an excellent year for the grape harvest in the Texas High Plains Region.
“After a turbulent year, it is great to get back to doing what we do best; making fantastic wine and providing high quality crush/press service for area vineyards and Texas wineries” said general manager Phillip Anderson. He continued, “We are excited about both the quantity and quality of grapes this year. There will be some very tasty wines made with this fruit.”
Due to late freezes and hailstorms, 2009 was a very light year for grape production in West Texas. In contrast, 2010 is shaping up to be the largest crop in years. In 2009, CapRock’s crush service only crushed 38 tons of grapes for the season. In the first two days of harvest this week they have crushed 26.5 tons and are expected to have crushed almost 60 tons by Monday morning. Harvest will continue for six to eight weeks. Anderson concluded, “This is a hectic and tiring time of year, but I love it!”
The general public can get into the fun of grape crushing at CapRock on Saturday August 28th from noon until 6 PM. Grapes will be available to stomp & patrons will have the opportunity to preserve their grapey footprints on a tee shirt.
