AUSTIN – In an effort to help local food banks serve a growing number of Texas families, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples asked Texans to dine out on Wednesday, Oct. 1, as part of the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up. The inaugural event celebrates locally produced foods and the expanding Texas wine industry, with many participating restaurants donating a portion of the day’s proceeds to Texas food banks.
Eateries taking part in the Restaurant Round-Up are all members of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN Restaurant Program, an initiative launched in January 2008 dedicated to getting more Texas items on more Texas menus. To qualify, establishments must be located in Texas and serve Texas products.
