Revitalized Stonewall (Texas Wine Country) Motor Lodge to Open on Hwy 290 Wine Trail This Spring
Originally built in 1964 to house the US Secret Service and Press Corp when Lyndon B Johnson became President, Stonewall Motor Lodge, formerly Stonewall Motel, is undergoing exciting renovations by 9Locals Investments to become a premiere vacation destination in the heart of the Texas wine country. The retro motel is located in the middle of the Hwy 290 Wine Trail (14818 US Hwy 290 E, Stonewall, TX) and sits less than fifteen minutes away from over fifty wineries, distilleries, and breweries. The historic motel plans to open its newly painted doors late spring 2019.
“I couldn’t get Stonewall Motor Lodge out of my head,” says 9Locals Investments owner Anita Ortiz Lubke, who is renovating the property in partnership with her husband Lance Lubke. “The area had changed so much since my husband and I first saw the property two years ago and we can see it becoming our own little Napa Valley.”
Renovations include new windows, doors, paint, brand new bathrooms, a spacious outdoor deck, and gathering spaces for guests. “Most of the vineyards on the Hwy 290 Wine Trail close around 6 pm,” says Ortiz Lubke. “We plan on creating cozy spaces where guests can enjoy the bottles of wine they picked up on their tastings either in our new lounge, on our deck, or around our fire pits.” The look and feel of the historic motel will be bright and clean with a nod to its history and a touch of midcentury modern décor.
Amenities include a coffee bar, smart TVs with Netflix and Hulu, ADA accessible rooms, smart check in, and close proximity to some of the best vineyards in the state. Ortiz Lubke enthuses, “We could see the potential to do something really special and bring this retro motel back to life, but we also saw this as a fun project to work on. It has good bones, great character and history, and a super location. Take a road trip to the Hill Country, tour some wineries, enjoy some good food, and come back to a relaxing night where we can sit out and enjoy a glass of wine. We can’t wait to host our guests this spring!”
