I find myself reflecting on the profound impact my mother has had on my life. Since her passing, this time of year has been a mixture of emotions for me. The first year without her was undoubtedly the hardest; I thought I had prepared myself, but the flood of tears on that day proved otherwise. Each subsequent year has brought its own blend of emotions – some years, I find solace in memories, while others, the pain of her absence feels as raw as ever. Such is the unpredictable nature of grief.

However, amidst the waves of sorrow, I’ve learned to find solace in the invaluable lessons my mother imparted to me during her time on this earth. Chief among them is the importance of living life authentically and embracing the present moment, for tomorrow is never promised. It’s this fundamental principle that led me to make a significant pivot in my career, transitioning from the fast-paced world of advertising and marketing technology to the nuanced and vibrant landscape of the wine industry.

My mother’s approach to life was one of unwavering self-care and boundless generosity. Through her culinary talents and infectious zest for life, she touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. It’s her spirit that I seek to honor through my venture, Fly Wines. With Fly Wines, I aspire to infuse the predominantly white male-dominated wine industry with a sense of inclusivity and warmth, mirroring the values my mother embodied so effortlessly.

While Mother’s Day can evoke bittersweet emotions for me, I choose to spend this day celebrating the extraordinary woman my mother was and the indelible mark she left on my life. I find comfort in reminiscing about the countless lessons she taught me and the profound love she bestowed upon me.

Mother’s Day serves as a poignant reminder to cherish the memories we hold dear and to honor the legacies of the remarkable women who have shaped us. Though my mother may no longer be physically present, her spirit lives on in every interaction we have at Fly Wines, and for that, I am endlessly grateful.
