New York Wine Competition Awards Texas Wines

A record number of wines competed for awards in the 10th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition ( in 2010. The competition, which benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times, drew more than 2,900 wines. The competition was the first to feature wines from all 50 states, a true testament to the growing local wine phenomenon in the USA ( In addition, nine Canadian provinces and 13 other countries were represented.

Hats off to the following 18 wines from Texas that were awarded medals in theFinger Lakes International Wine Competition. Leader of the pack were Brennan Vineyards, Fuqua Winery and Grape Creek Vineyards whose wines attained gold medals in this year’s competition.

Shiraz/Syrah – Brennan Vineyards 2007 Syrah (Syrah 92%, Ruby Cabernet 8%)

Zinfandel – Fuqua Winery 2006 Zinfandel

Other Red – Grape Creek Vineyards 2007 Blend – Sangiovese, Merlot, Cab Sauvignon

Viognier – Brennan Vineyards 2009 Viognier (Viognier 89%, Muscat 11%)

Merlot – Fuqua Winery 2006 Merlot

Shiraz/Syrah – Fuqua Winery 2006 Syrah

Icewine – Georgetown Winery NV Lone Star Frost (Vidal)

Other Fruit Varieties – Georgetown Winery NV Texas Rio Red (Texas Grapefruit/Plum Blend)

Riesling – Retreat Hill Winery & Vineyard 2008 Riesling

Blanc du Bois – Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard and Winery 2008 Blanc du Bois – Off Dry

Blanc du Bois -Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard and Winery 2008 Blanc du Bois – Sweet

Norton (Cynthiana) – Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard and Winery 2007 Norton

Villard Blanc – Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard and Winery 2008 Villard Blanc

Cabernet Sauvignon – Georgetown Winery & Vineyard 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

Port – Georgetown Winery & Vineyard 2008 Jubilee Reserve (Cabernet Sauvignon/Barolo)

  1. I know that Brennan Vineyards was Texas and Fuqua was Zin from California. But have not had time to check any others.

    I will try to find out and follow in a comments next week.
