Dr. Peper wins Messina Hof Tour and Tasting Giveaway on VintageTexas.com
We had a good response with many people submitting their responses to the Messina Hof Tour and Tasting Giveaway offer using the comment field and some sent emails. All the names literally went into a hat and one name was randomly drawn. The winning entry was Dr. William Peper.
Bill Peper told me, “We’re delighted to be able to take the tastings/tour prize at Messina Hof!”
Peper is a retired heart surgeon from Crawford, Texas. Though not retired as a surgeon, yet, his retirement from heart surgery allowed him to pursue his passion for the vine. . . . literally. Years ago, Peper established the open heart surgery program at the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California. There, he grew to love the science and art of viticulture and oenology.
Peper also commented, “I’ve been back in my home state of Texas for 17 years, and 3 years ago, I began a commercial vineyard with my partners, outside of Valley Mills, TX. In fact, our name is Valley Mills Vineyards, and we just barreled our first vintage this year (Tempranillo, Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec). Don’t hold your breath too much, because you won’t see us on the radar until 2010, when we hope to open our (then) newly-constructed winery, set in the picturesque hills of Valley Mills, Texas [about 25 miles west of Waco]. Expect Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Semillon to follow in the next two years.”
Peper and his wife, Amy, plan to share the tour and tasting with his two partners, Dr. John Bagnasco, and wife Kandi Bagnasco and their friends.
The prize private tour and tasting is for 20 people; a day in Texas Wine Country. They will enjoy the award winning wines of Messina Hof during a private tour tasting paired with fruit and cheeses. Messina Hof is located in the center of the state the same distance from Houston and Austin as Napa is from San Fransisco. It is like a trip to Europe without crossing the Atlantic!
Peper finished by saying, “Thank you for pulling our name out of the hat! This sounds like a great outing, and we will bring a group of wine-loving friends to Messina Hof Winery at the earliest date.
