Top Texas wine, the 2009 Becker Vineyards Viognier, Goes for $100,000 at Houston Rodeo Auction

The top Texas wine from the 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Wine Competition, the 2009 Becker Vineyards Viognier, went for $100,000 and the top Spanish wine, the 2009 Acustic Cellar Blanc from Montsant brought $92,000. Spain was the featured country this year.
The “big dog” of the competition, 2006 Alexander Valley Vineyards’ Cyrus, the Grand Champion Best of Show raised more than $1.2 million with a nine-liter bottle that sold for $210,000 to a four-buyer partnership.
The top red wine, the 2008 Vision Cellars Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir, was sold for $38,000, and the top white, the 2008 Vasse Felix Chardonnay from Margaret River in Australia, was sold for $27,000.
The money goes to support the rodeo’s mission of providing scholarships and supporting programs for Houston-area youths.
