Twenty of Missouri’s top wineries will participate in the DLW 2011: Missouri Twitter Taste-off at 1 p.m. on April 2 at the Doubletree Westport in St. Louis. You want big Names? We have them. The complete list is here.

Each winery will pour two wines, and Twitter Taste-off participants will sip, tweet, and repeat until they all forty wines are sampled. Then, the Twitter Tasters will award four prizes — Best Red Wine, Best White Wine, Media’s Choice, and People’s Choice. Taste-off participants must be 21 or older. To participate, buy tickets here.

Participants in The Twitter Taste-off will also blog or Twitter about what they’ve tasted, and before they vote for their favorite wines. Taste-off emcees are Eric V. Orange, the founder and CEO of LocalWineEvents.com, and Texas wine writer, blogger and social media expert Russ Kane at VintageTexas. Follow the conference on the Twitter hash tag #DLWMO, or on the DLW Facebook page.

“I’ve always said that anyone can be a wine reviewer,” says DLW co-founder Dave McIntyre, the wine columnist for the Washington Post. “And the Twitter Taste-off gives everyone a chance to do just that.”

The DLW 2010 Virginia Taste-off recorded some 4 million Twitter mentions. I hope to see you at the DLW event in St. Louis, MO. If you can’t be there, please follow the Twitter action for a virtual tasting experience, or retweet or tweet your comments on our goings-on.

See why many in the Missouri Wine Industry say, “Vinifera….We don’t need no stinkin’ Vinifera!”

They have proudly built their state’s industry on an array of Native American and French-American hybrid grape varieties:

Vignoles – Lightly sweet and amazingly flavorful for sipping on the deck or enjoying with anything Thai or Mexican.

Norton – Becoming another flagship producer in Missouri for our official state grape. This superb red is perfectly suited for Grilled lamb.

Vidal – White, lightly dry, clean, citrus flavor great with shrimp scampi and poultry.

Chardonel – Clean crisp dry white wine exhibits, rich flavors of green apple and pear.  Excellent with seafood, baked Brie or mild French cheeses.

Seyval – Crisp fruit flavors and delicate aromas accentuate this classic continental climate varietal.  Excellent with seafood too!

Traminette – Aromatically floral, mineral rich, semi-sweet wine is evocative of jasmine tea, honeysuckle, rose, peach and kiwi. Delightful with dessert or spicy cuisine.

Love to taste, talk and tweet about Texas wines and where they are in the global scheme for wines. After all that's the only way they will reach the full potential.
