Leading Regional Wine Writers Set for the Drinklocalwine.com Conference in Virginia Wine Country

Some of the best writers about U.S. regional wine, including Lenn Thompson of the New York Cork Report, author and critic Todd Kliman, Brian Kirby of TheOther46.com, North Carolina foodie Elizabeth Weigand, and Washington Post wine columnist Dave McIntyre, will attend the second annual DrinkLocalWine.com conference on April 25, 2010, at Lansdowne Resort in Loudoun County, Virginia. The event, presented by the Virginia Wine Board (http://www.virginiawine.org), will focus on the diversity and quality of the 157 wineries in Virginia’s Old Dominion, and include invited Maryland wines in the Twitter Taste-off.

“People always ask me if I’m surprised that we get so many fine writers and bloggers to attend the conference, and I always say no,” says DLW co-founder Jeff Siegel, the Wine Curmudgeon (http://www.winecurmudgeon.com). “There is an incredible community that is writing and blogging about regional wine, and there is an audience that is eager to read them.”

In addition, Olivia Wilder of Blog Talk Radio will do her Sunday night show live from the conference. The complete list of media attending the conference is here.

Early registration is $65 ($75 on the day of the event). Go to http://DrinkLocalWine.com to register.

For information, call (978) 276-9463 or send an email.

Conference registration includes the Twitter Taste-off, featuring 25 Virginia and 6 Maryland wineries, as well as lunch and three panel discussions focusing on issues unique to Virginia and regional wine – its grapes and terroir, how the state’s winemakers have used social media to advance their cause, and why local wine should be part of the local food movement. Schedule and panel information is at DrinkLocalWine.com.

Virginia is the fifth-largest wine producing state in the country, and the state has made important strides in the past decade in producing world-class Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Franc and red Bordeaux- style blends.

Other conference sponsors are Landsdowne Resort; the Loudoun County Convention & Visitors Association, “D.C.’s wine country,” which is graciously hosting the media; Tuscarora at the Mill and Magnolia at the Mill restaurants; and Boxwood Winery.
