More Texas Wine Winners from 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Competition

Several weeks ago, I blogged about the announcement from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Competition announcing its 2011 top winners. In this list was the top Texas wine: Becker Vineyards Viognier 2009. Recently the Rodeo Wine Committee announced their 2011 Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal winners. Below, I’ve presented the Texas winners as defined by wines from Texas wineries but which were also made from enough Texas grown grapes to qualify to be Texas Appellation. Enjoy and savor them well. Where can you get them? See at the bottom of this blog and GOTEXAN list of Texas wineries. For a complete list of winning wines, go to:

Where to get Texas wines. They can be hard to find. Here are some outlets that sell Texas wines:

Spec’s (Online searchable)  http://www.specsonline.com/

You can also contact the winery directly and most will ship directly to your doorstep (requires an adult signature). See GOTEXAN list of Texas wineries at:

HEB, Central Market, Kroger Signature Stores, Twin Liquors, others. However, BE CAREFUL! Many of the wines from Texas wineries sold in these venues are not made from enough Texas grapes to be called “Texas Appellation”. If you see “For Sale in Texas Only” or American Appellation on the label, remember: It’s not Texas wine!

  2. I added the following (neither say Texas on the winners form, but they do indicate counties in Texas):

Saddlehorn Winery Black Spanish Sweet Wine, Washington County, Texas, NV, Non Vitis Vinifera Reds

Salado Sweet Red, Bell County, Texas, NV, Fruit Wines
