Texas Dinner Event at Flat Creek Estate in Marble Falls, Featured Speaker Russ Kane (VintageTexas)

The Greater Houston Chapter of The Wine Society of Texas will be celebrating Fall in the Falls Part 2, in Marble Falls, Texas, on October 30, 2010 at Flat Creek Estate Winery. Listed below are the details of the event plus cost.

Your evening will begin with a tasting of several Flat Creek Estate wines with paired appetizers, and you’ll be touring the Estate vineyards at 6 pm. Dinner service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

1st Course – Smoked Chicken & Corn Chowder: Paired with Flat Creek Estate 2009 Pinot Grigio

2nd Course – Seared Greens Salad with  Julienned Beets, Fennel Confit, Grilled Asparagus and Coriander Balsamic Dressing: Paired with Flat Creek Estate 2008 Tempranillo

3rd Course – Petite Filet and Pecan Smoked Duck Breast with Veal Demi Glace Duo Plate served with Eggplant Spinach and Feta Roulade and Wild Mushroom Risotto: Paired with Flat Creek Estate 2009 Super Texan

Dessert – Butternut Squash & Green Apple Strudel with Candid Pecan, Caramel Sauce and Mini Crème Brulee: Paired with Flat Creek Estate 2008 Muscato Blanco

After Dinner – Port by the glass: $5; Complimentary Coffee

Houston WST chapter member, Russ Kane (writer, blogger and Texas wine aficionado) from VintageTexas, will share excerpts from his upcoming book Texas Terroir: A New Wine Country Experience. Russ is a recipient of a WST 2009 scholarship.

$85.00 all inclusive/per person: An additional charge of $10 per person will be required for all non Wine Society of Texas members,  payable by cash or check at the door

If you have specific dietary restrictions, please make that known upon making your reservations. Credit card number must be given to hold reservation and must be made by October 25, 2010 by calling 512-267-6310.

Only a limited number of seats still available. Reservations may be transferred but not cancelled during the final 72 hours prior to the dinner.

Plans are to hold a silent auction and or raffle to contribute to the WST Scholarship Fund

For those who will need hotel reservations, group rates have been negotiated at the following hotels:

• La Quinta Inn, Marble Falls, TX – $109 Friday or Saturday night stay. Complimentary breakfast included, 1-830-798-2020., 501 Highway 2147 West.  Cutoff date September 29th. 10 rooms available, Lake view

• Hampton Inn, Marble Falls, TX – $95 city view, $105 lake view for Friday or Saturday night stay. If lake view rooms are available, you can be up graded to lake view at city view price. October is a busy month in Marble Falls and both hotels sell out quickly. After cutoff dates, reservations will be made on a space and rate available basis. There are other hotels in Marble Falls. Rates and availability are on your own

For those who arrive on Friday, dinner is on your own but Ed Dent from WST Houston spoke to the owners of Opie’s BBQ in Spicewood who said they would set up an area for us and we can bring our own bottles of wine. We plan to be there from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. They are located at 9504 HWY 71 E, just south of the entrance to Spicewood winery. Afterwards, Ed Dent will have wine, cheese and chips at the La Quinta.
