Pictorial: Texas Wine Dinner at the Bush Presidential Library

It was a fine performance from the standpoints of both the wine and the food. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the appetizers because I ate them before I thought about taking photographs. Your loss was my gain….sorry! The first two wines served during the reception were well received: Flat Creek Muscato D’Arancia (semi-sweet; http://www.flatcreekestate.com) and Becker Vineyards Prairie Rotie (http://www.beckervineyards.com; Rhone-style red blend).

The Smoked Jalapeno Rubbed Shrimp were served with Llano Estacado 2009 Viviana (http://www.llanowine.com), an aromatic white blend….

The Brown Sugar-Garlic Braised Bacon was a slab of bacon, not the thin strip you think of with your morning eggs. I think that in low country cuisine, they call it pork belly. It was served with the Fall Creek 2006 Meritus (http://www.fcv.com; Premium Bordeaux-style red blend)….

The Intermezzo was the Prickly Pear Cactus Sorbet with Tito’s Texas Vodka (http://www.titos-vodka.com)….

The came the Pepper Crusted, Flat Iron Seared Beef Tenderloin served with the 2005 Messina Hof Paulo Shiraz (http://www.messinahof.com)….

The final course was the Texas Blackberry Meringue Tart served with Flat Creek Mistella (http://www.flatcreekestate.com; Fortified juice of Muscato grapes)….
