The National Womens Wine Competition (http://nwwc.info) began as a “bolt out of the blue” in early 2005. Lea Pierce, a direct marketing consultant in the wine industry, was discussing wine competitions in general with a colleague when inspiration struck: “We should hold a national women’s wine competition!” she said. Pierce understood that women buy 60-70% of all the wine in the U.S., creating an untapped opportunity to create a competition judged entirely by women. The results would create the first “woman-to-woman roadmap of the wine industry”, helping professional wine buyers and consumers identify wines that women enjoy. After two years of work and development, the first competition was staged in 2007 in Santa Rosa, California.

  1. Mr. Kane,

Vintage Texas is simply the best resource for information on Texas wine. Thank you for posting this information for all of us to see. I enjoyed this post about the women’s wine competition; I have met many women who have excellent pallets for tasting wine. I have not tried many of the winners of this completion and I will be seeking them out in the near future. It is impressive to go to their site and see the wide array wines they are judged with and realize that Texas wines are world class wines.

I have found myself adding more and more Texas wines to our wine list to the point where we now have over 25 wines from Texas available at our resort. We are increasing our commitment and promotion of Texas wines at the resort. Two opportunities I would like to share with you and possibly your readers; available in Francesca’s at Sunset, our fine dinning restaurant, the “Viva Viognier!” wine flight. Four Texas Viogniers served side by side…1- Viognier, Alamosa Wine Cellars, “High Valley Vineyard”, Texas Hill Country, Texas, 2008, 2- Viognier, Becker Vineyards,Texas, 2008, 3- Viognier, Brennan Vineyards, Texas, 2008, and 4- Viognier, Mc Pherson Cellars, Texas, 2009
two ounce pour each of the best from Texas all for only eleven dollars. The other Texas wine opportunity we offer is the afternoon Texas wine tasting; from 4:00pm to 5:00pm on Wednesday through Saturday everyone is welcome to come to our bar, Steinheimer’s, where I am pouring two ounces of three different Texas wines for a nominal charge of five dollars. We offer three different wines each day, so if a guest came all four days they would taste twelve different Texas wines from seven different wineries! I am really enjoying pouring the Texas wines and I am encouraged by all the very positive compliments the wine receive. If you are in the area, please come by and say “hello.”

Keep up the great work on Vintage Texas!

    Cheers!
